When there is an accident with a package, who is responsible? Are the courier responsible or was it packed wrong? Of course the sensible thing is to know that prevention is better then cure. So if its packed properly then the likelihood is, there is no breakages to be had.
We all know we don’t live in a perfect world. So if you are packing your goods you will need good quality packing materials. So there are few rules to follow that will lessen the chances of anything bad happening.
If you leave a 50mm space around the product inside and the outer packing. Then fill this space with some padding like corrugated paper, or bubble wrap, something that will take a blow.
There are all sorts of packing that can be used for example polystyrene or shreds of paper. Cushioning will come in a lightweight material so it fill in corners of a package tightly. This will make sure the article is kept in the centre and isn’t moving about.
Many of the items that make the packing material is usually made out of material that is recycled and bio degradable.
It comes as a surprise but a lot of countries will not accept polystyrene because it isn’t considered environmentally friendly and a fine could be charged to somebody, which is not what anybody wants.
If you are packing an item that needs stacking, it is best to use a divider in between each item so they do not rub on each other and break or crack. You can use sheets of cardboard or even thin brown paper and foam sheeting. Foam sheeting can also be used to wrap any valuable objects.
While your package is being transported it may be subjected to bad weather conditions on its travels. Also the vibrations and the handling may risk the package being damaged.
If you are packing a number o fragile items make sure they are individually wrapped in protective material.
When you are writing your address labels out why don’t you write a spare one and stick it inside the package too, just in case.
While your are checking your package over, make sure you remove any old package labels, you don’t want anything to get mixed up because of old labels being carelessly left on.
For extra absorption you should have the final wrap of a padded bag where you can.
Anywhere you think you should add all the extra padding you can. You may find it is the difference between your item getting there in one piece or not as the case may be.
